
DHAKA, April 09, 2026 (BSS)- BNP candidate Rezaul Karim Badsha has been unofficially elected as a Member of Parliament in by-election to Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency.
Returning officer Md. Fazlul Karim announced the results tonight.
Rezaul Karim Badsha with sheaf of paddy symbol secured 133,931 votes while his nearest rival Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman got 57,159 votes with weighing scale symbol.
Independent candidate Al-Amin Talukdar, with the cauliflower symbol, bagged 499 votes.
There are eligible 450,307 voters in the constituency, including 10 third-gender (hijra) voters. Voting was held in 151 centers in a peaceful and festive manner from 7:30am to 4:30pm without any break.
Unofficial results from all centers have been received as voter turnout was 42.58%.
The 13th Jatiya Sangsad election was held on February 12. In that election, BNP Chairman and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman won the Bogura-6 seat by a large margin. He also won the Dhaka-17 seat.
According to constitutional rules, a person cannot hold more than one seat even if elected from multiple constituencies.
Therefore, before taking oath, on February 16, Taique Rahman vacated Bogura-6 seat and submitted a letter to the Election Commission. On the same day, the seat was declared vacant.
Later, on February 24, the Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule for the by-election in this constituency.
