KHULNA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard will conduct drives to protect Sundarbans wildlife and ensure the security of river routes in the south-western coastal belt of the country.

The decision was taken at a coordination meeting today at Coast Guard Base Mongla, aimed at strengthening the security of south-western navigation routes as well as the Sundarbans.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, media officer of the Coast Guard, told BSS that the meeting decided to strengthen measures to prevent robbery, smuggling, poaching, and the entry of illegal firearms into navigation routes.

The meeting also decided to ensure full security of foreign ships, tourist vessels and tourists, and prevent the abduction of fishermen, including moual and boali.

besides, measures will be taken to prevent theft at the outer jetty of Mongla Port, enforce the 58-day fishing ban in the Bay of Bengal, prevent smuggling through motorised boats, and deploy watchmen to ensure security. 

Members of Bangladesh Navy, Bagerhat District Administration, River Police, Mongla Port Authority, Narcotics Department, Forest Department, Directorate of Shipping, Launch Labour Association, Sundarbans Tour Operators, among others, attended the meeting.
