PM chairs meeting on water management at secretariat

DHAKA, April 19, 2026 (BSS) - A meeting of the committee on water management was held today with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here this afternoon, said Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.

Water Resource Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister Forhad Hossain Azad, expert of water resource management Professor Ainun Nishat and senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.

Later, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee told journalists that they held the meeting to discuss the preparatory issues ahead of the upcoming monsoon.

“The rainy season is approaching, floods and inundation may occur. We discussed with the Prime Minister what preparations we need to take in advance. We informed him about our plans,” he said.

Noting that canal excavation programme is ongoing, the minister said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the canal excavation programme in Jashore on April 27 and in Sylhet on May 2.
