DHAKA, Jan 1, 2024 (BSS) – At least three adolescents of a family were injured in fire while they were flying paper-balloon ahead of new year 2024 at city’s old town here last night.
The injured were identified as M Siyam, 17, M Rakib, 18 and M Raihan, 15.

Three separate such incidents also took place in the city while celebrating the 31st night and New Year during the late night on Sunday.   

“Three persons of a family were burnt severely in fire as they were flying paper-balloon at Mujibar Ghat in Kamrangirchar at 12.15am on Monday”, said Police Camp in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) M Bacchu Mia.

After the incident, the three injured were rushed to emergency outdoor of Sheikh Hasina National Burn Plastic and Surgery Institute at around 1.30am.

“My son and my other two brothers were burnt in fire when they were torching the paper-balloon on the roof of our house ahead of the New Year celebration”, said Shawpan, father of fire victim Siyam.

Fire have burnt major portion of Siyam’s body and little parts of other two victims and they have been kept in observation at the emergency department of the Hospital.
