Dinajpur sees jump in paddy production by 3 lakh MT

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2024 (BSS) - Paddy production in Dinajpur has increased by about 3 lakh metric tons in the last 15 years, an official release said here today.


According to the information of the agriculture department, in the last 15 years, the land of paddy cultivation has increased to 1, 264 hectares and the production has jumped to 2 lakh 89 thousand and 404 metric tons in Dinajpur.


Last year, a total of 16 lakh 25 thousand and 39 metric tons of paddy was produced on 4 lakh 43 thousand 695 hectares of land in this district.


Besides, litchi production has almost doubled in last 15 years in the country.


Last year, 32 thousand 117 metric tons of litchi was produced on 5, 490 hectares of land which is 14, 371 metric tons more than 2008-2009 production year.

About 4.15 percent of the national production of rice and food grains is produced in Dinajpur district, according to the release.
