Malawi citizen held in capital with 8.3kg cocaine

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2024 (BSS) - Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested an East African country-Malawi's female citizen and seized 8.3 kilograms of cocaine from her at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Wednesday evening.

A joint team of the DNC and Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested Namthandazo Tauera Soko, 35, a nurse, upon her arrival at the airport on a Qatar Airways flight. 

DNC's director (operations) Tanvir Mamtaz told a press conference at the department's Dhaka city north office at Tejgaon here this afternoon.

He said worth of seized cocaine is Taka 100 crore as it is the largest consignment of cocaine seized in the country's history.
 
Mohammad Ziaul Haque, APBn's additional superintendent of police said earlier 3.3kg cocaine was seized at the Dhaka airport in 2014.
