DMP takes adequate security measures for Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2024

DHAKA, Jan 31, 2024 (BSS) - Adequate security measures have been taken by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to thwart any kind of sabotage acts and militant threats in and around the Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2024 to be inaugurated tomorrow.

While divulging the security plan today, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said safe atmosphere will be ensured for the visitors to the book fair throughout the month of February.

"The DMP has taken a tight security measures to allow book-lovers to explore and enjoy the fair without any fear," said Habibur Rahman after inspecting the overall security measures in the book fair located on Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan here.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the month-long event at 3:00pm tomorrow.

DMP Commissioner said each entry point of the venue will have archways and metal detectors to enhance safety.

The security measures include establishment of internal and external security perimeters and continuous surveillance by undercover detectives, he said, adding that additionally, several watch towers have been erected to oversee and prevent any untoward incidents.

He said the entire fair area is under continuous CCTV monitoring, connected to a dedicated control room. Besides, there will be various patrolling units, including foot, street, and cyber patrols, around the fair vicinity. The presence of the dog squad, SWAT team, and bomb disposal unit will provide an immediate response capability.

In addition, the DMP has set up a lost and found centre for missing children, a nursing centre for mothers, blood donation facilities, and access to pure drinking water throughout the fair premises.
