11 get death sentence for killing boy in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Jan 31, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced 11 people to death sentence for killing a boy 21 years back.

Judge of district Additional Sessions Court-2 Md Abbas Uddin handed down the verdict to Bedarul Islam Bedin, 52, Sarwar Rowson Sumon, 42, Ershad Babu, 40, Monowar Hossain Munsur, 43, Nazrul Islam, 45, Rana, 43, Shahi, 38, Tutul, 46, Sujon, 44, Rahim, 42, and Dablu, 45.

Bedarul Islam Bedin is the Bangladesh representative of World Humanity Commission and also the President of district Nirapad Sadak Chai.

The court also fined each of the convicts Tk 50000.

According to the prosecution, on June 28 in 2002 the convicts murdered a class nine student Moazzem Hossain and left him in Veti Poshchim Hajipara area. He was a student at Panchurchak High School in the town. Following the murder, Moazzem's father filed a case against a few unknown people. Police pressed the charge sheet accusing the eleven on October 29 in 2003.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court of Md Abbas Uddin gave the verdict in presence of six convicts. The rest are on run, said Public Prosecutor Nipendranath Mondol.
