BOGURA, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) - Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said tough actions will be taken against the dishonest traders if they make extra profits by creating artificial crisis of rice and paddy.

"A law has been enacted and it will be implemented soon," he said while addressing a meeting with stakeholders related to controlling rice price hike at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district.

Urging all not to spread rumours on price hike, Sadhan said the government would not harass the rice and paddy traders. But cases will be lodged if they do any irregularity, he said, adding many dishonest businessmen have increased the price of rice before and after the election.

A process is going on to ensure writing the price at mill gate on the rice bag, he said.

Police Super Sudip Kumar Chakrabarti, additional DG of Directorate General of Food Al Mamun, additional secretary of the food ministry Pradip Kuma Pal and rice mills owners, among others, addressed the meeting with deputy commissioner Md Saiful Islam in the chair.
