SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) – Treasury bench lawmaker of Rajshahi-6 constituency Mohammad Shahriar Alam today said the recent national elections were challenging.
“The recently held parliament elections were very much inclusive and challenging compare to any other times in the past”, said ruling party lawmaker and former state minister for foreign affairs while taking part in the general discussion on a thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in the House here.
Chief whip Noor-E Alam Chowhdury raised the motion in the House and later it was seconded by whip Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Shawpan.
The voter turnout during the elections was over 53 percent while it was not less than 51 percent particularly in Rajshahi region, said the lawmaker.
Taking part in the discussion, another opposition Major General (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim said the 12th parliament elections were very much competitive.
The lawmaker of Cox’s Bazar-1, however, said the President in his 130-page speech projected the country’s good governance, development of skilled youth forces, local government , development small indigenous people and the defense of the country.
The present government led by the Awami League is working to bring all the people including poor and handicapped under development programme which would help to build the country as Sonar Bangla dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said the lawmakers while taking part in the general discussion.
Quoting a development statistics designed by a research organization, the former state minister said the average income of the people has been increased due to the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 30 million people would raise to the middle class status by 2024.
Ruling party lawmakers Saifuzzaman Chwodhury of Chattogram-13, Mohammad Mainuddin of Brahmanbaria-2, Mostaque Ahmed Ruhi of Netrokona-1 and Mainul Hossain Khan of Dhaka-14, among others, took part in the discussion with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku was in the chair.
The lawmakers highlighted the successes of the present government in different vital sectors, including education, power, agriculture, health, infrastructure development, economy and food production sectors.
Earlier, they paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
