SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 8, 2024 (BSS)- State Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said the government is encouraging
import of electric vehicles (EV) for the road transport service as this mode
of transport is cost effective and environment friendly.

"The electric vehicles have created revolution across the world, as such the
government has already formulated policy to encourage the mode of transport,"
said the state minister while responding to a supplementary question raised
by treasury bench lawmaker Shamim Osman of Narayanganj-4 during the question-
answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

The efficiency of the conventional petroleum run vehicles is only 20 percent
while it is 80 percent for the electric run vehicles, said the minister,
adding that even the carbon emission rate from the petroleum run vehicles is
18 percent.

In addition to this, the per kilometer transportation cost on gasoline-
powered vehicles is Taka 100 while it is only Taka 20 for travelling on
electric vehicles, the minister told the parliament.

Regarding the cost-effective recharging of 40 lakh three-wheelers across the
country, the state minister, however, admitted that pilferage of 700-800
megawatts electricity is taking place for recharging these three-wheelers but
the economic return is much more than the electricity cost.

To facilitate the use of electric vehicles, he said the government has
already prepared electric vehicle recharge station and it has been approved
by the Prime Minister. So anyone can come forward to set up the recharge
station as per the policy.
