TANGAIL, Feb 18, 2024 (BSS) - Four people, including a woman, were killed as a pick up van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Mirzapur upazila of the district today.
The deceased were identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Nazmul Islam, 25, son of Samej Uddin of Nayapara village of Banshtail Union, Rahima Begum, 35, wife of Tara Miah of Telipara village of the same union and Lutfar Rahman alias Moizuddin ,40, son of Yusuf Miah of Ghairabatil Abul Market area and Abbas Miah , 30, son of Bidyut Miah of Bhatgram village of Uarshi Union of the district.
The accident took place on the Gorhai-Sakhipur road in the Telipara area of Banshtail union of the upazila in the afternoon leaving three passengers of the CNG-run auto rickshaw dead on the spot.
Auto-rickshaw driver Nazmul Islam succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, locals said.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirzapur police station Rezaul Karim and Banshtail police outpost inspector (in-charge) Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter to BSS.
The bodies have been kept at Tangail General Hospital, the OC said.
Police seized all the vehicles involved in the accident, he said, adding that the driver of the pickup van, however, fled the spot.
