Data protection act on cards to prevent illegal data sale, processing: Palak

JASHORE, Feb 24, 2024 (BSS) - State Minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said the government is going to formulate personal data protection act so that no one can do business by selling and processing personal data without consent.

 
He was addressing as the chief guest the inauguration ceremony of "Tier-4 Data Center Cypher" organized by AxEnTec PLC in Jashore on Friday, said a press release.

Palak stressed on keeping the information of the country's citizens inside the country as information of financial transactions, social media information, personal likes and dislikes and so one cannot be used abroad for business purposes or for organization purposes without consent of the individuals.

As most of the government services are now available on a single portal, the services are reaching people very easily, he said.

With the expansion of technology, digital services are now available everywhere, including in education, health, commerce and economy, said the state minister.

Palak said data is the main resource of this digital service delivery web, software or digital service delivery and that is why it is said, "Data is the next currency".

 He said now 13 crore internet users are in Bangladesh of 17 crore people.

 If this data can be secured, stored, localized and processed, it will be easier to build data driven and decision making smart government systems and create more business opportunities in the private sector, he said.

Palak said, the data of the country and its citizens cannot be used by anyone else without permission as well as security will be ensured.
He said that the country's advanced data centers will be the brain of future developed and Smart Bangladesh.

Data centers will store and analyze and process that data to create new opportunities, the state minister said.
 
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Authority Managing Director G S M Zafar Ullah chaired the function while AxEnTec PLC managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Adil Hossain Noble, AxEnTec board chairman Rajeev Sethi and director Sahed Alam also spoke.
