Historic 7 March observed in missions abroad

DHAKA, March 8, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh missions abroad have observed the historic day of 7th March, recalling the epoch-making speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that fired up the Bengali nation to fight and win the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.

Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, Bangladesh High Commission in London, Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada, Bangladeshi Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto, Canada, the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Bangladesh Consulate General in New York, Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut, Lebanon , Bangladeshi Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Embassy of Bangladesh in Lisbon, Portugal observed the historic 7th March with patriotic zeal on Thursday, remembering Bangabandhu's iconic speech, according to messages received here today.

The programmes included: hoisting of the national flag, reading out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister, paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his portrait on mission premises, observing one-minute silence in memory of all the great language martyrs of 1952, 1971 and 1975, holding discussions, screening documentaries on Bangabandhu and his historic speech and offering special prayers, milad-mahfil and doa-munajat.

Bangladesh Consulate General in New York observed the 'Historic 7th March' through various programmes with due dignity.

Consul General of Bangladesh in New York Najmul Huda and other members of the consulate started the day's programmes by placing wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A minute's silence was observed in memories of all the martyrs of 1971 and 1975, including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out on the occasion.

A video based on the historic March 7 speech was screened.

Later, an open discussion was held on the importance and significance of the day.
