Khokon, Monjurul elected president, secretary of SCBA

DHAKA, March 10, 2024 (BSS) – Pro-BNP Blue Panel candidate Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and pro-Awami League White Panel candidate Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque were elected president and secretary respectively of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2024-2025 tenure.

Convener of election sub-committee senior advocate Abul Khayer declared the result late last night.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad backed White Panel got majority in the polls, bagging 10 out of 14 posts, including that of secretary, two vice-presidents and treasurer.

Winners from the White Panel are: Secretary Shah Monjurul Haque , vice-presidents Ramjan Ali Sikder and Dewan Md Abu Obayed Hossain Setu, treasurer Mohammad Nurul Huda Ansari, assistant secretaries Md Humayun Kabir and Humayun Kabir Pallab, members Belal Hossain, Md Raihan Rony, Rashedul Haque Khokon and Khaled Mosharraf.

Pro-BNP Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Prishad’s Blue Panel got four seats including that of President.

Winners from the Blue Panel are: President Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon as president, members Syed Fazle Elahi Ovi, Shafiqul Islam Shafiq and Fatima Akhter.
 

A total of 5,319 voters out of a total of 7,883 cast their ballots in the two-day elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on March 6 and 7.

Apart from panel candidates, Yunus Ali Akand and MK Rahman also vied for the post of president, while Nahid Sultana Juthi and Farhad Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan for the post of secretary; and Saiful Islam for the post of treasurer as independent candidates.
