Sohel, Topu elected DUJ president jointly, Akhtar GS

DHAKA, March 11, 2024 (BSS) - Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Sajjad Alam Khan Topu have been elected President and Akhtar Hossain as the General Secretary (GS) in the biennial election of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).

Voting of the election held today at the Jatiya Press Club auditorium from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

After counting of the votes, chief election commissioner of the DUJ polls Farid Hossain announced both Sohel and Topu as president as they bagged same number of votes (812).

Akther was elected general secretary bagging 637 votes.

As per the decision, Sohel will be in charge of president for first one year and Topu for the second year in the biennial committee.
 
Nazrul Islam Mithu was elected senior vice-president bagging 741 votes while Ibrahim Khalil Khokon was elected vice-president securing 523 votes.

Md Shahjahan Miah was elected joint secretary bagging 514 votes, Soheli Chowdhury treasurer with 550 votes, Golam Muztaba Dhrubo organizing secretary securing 947 votes, Asadur Rahman legal affairs secretary with 876 votes, Muhammad Mamun Sheikh publicity and publications secretary with 748 votes, Jannatul Ferdous Chowdhury office secretary with 717 votes, Shahjahan Swapan welfare secretary with 716 votes, Dulal Khan sports and cultural secretary with 574 votes and Sumi Khan women affair secretary with 607 votes.

Elected executive council members are GM Masud Dhali (741 votes), Nasrin Begum Giti (694), A M Shahjahan Miah (647), Anwar Sadat Sabuj (546), Sajeda Haque (529), Ahmed Musfiqa Naznin (509), Rarjana Sultana (503) and Anjan Rahman (488).
