Energy transition dialogue to begin tomorrow in Berlin

DHAKA, Mar 18, 2024 (BSS)-The two-day long 10th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) will begin tomorrow (19 March) at the Berlin headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs (AA), Germany, will deliver the welcome speech while Dr Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Germany will present keynote paper in the first day.
 
Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Bangladesh Nasrul Hamid will speak on energy-water-food nexus refers to the interconnections and interdependencies between energy, water, and food systems on the second day of the dialogue.

He will highlight holistic agricultural solutions that integrate renewable energy sources, which can contribute to sustainable and resilient approaches for ensuring an adequate and secure supply of water and food.

Hajar Yagkoubi will moderate the session, while Joachim Goldbeck, CEO, Goldbeck Solar, Dr Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Thailand and Jennifer Layke, Global Director, Energy, World Resources Institute will speak at the dialogue.

According to the session, Agriculture PV referred to as agrivoltaics or solar farming, offers opportunity for the farms to cultivate crops in a more resource-efficient manner and creating new synergies.

 It enables dual land use, allowing agricultural activities to continue underneath solar panels. This optimizes land use, particularly valuable in areas where land is scarce or expensive.

Moreover, studies were shown that partial shading provided by solar panels in Agriculture PV systems can reduce evaporation, maintain soil moisture, and moderate temperature extremes, resulting in improved crop yields.

Besides, Jennifer Morgan, state secretary and special envoy for international climate action at the German Foreign Ministry, Stefan Wenzel, parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action will speak in the 10th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue.
 
IRENA’s Director General Francesco La Camera will present the WTO brief “Tracking COP28 outcomes: Tripling renewable capacity by 2030” while Dr Simone Peter, president of the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) will give an update on the initiative 3xRenewables from the last COP.
