Hasan welcomes Ireland to open Honorary Consulate in Dhaka

DHAKA, March 18, 2024 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today welcomed the Ireland to inaugurate its Honorary Consulate in Dhaka and urged Dublin to let Bangladeshi students to submit their visa application here. 

He also urged Dublin to increase employment of Bangladeshis in Ireland. 

Hasan made the request while visiting Ireland's Enterprise, Trade and Employment Minister Simon Coveney met with him at the foreign ministry here. 

Bangladesh foreign minister sought Ireland's support to continue the Everything But Arms (EBA) and 'GSP Plus' benefits of the European Union even after Bangladesh's promotion to a middle-income country.

Ireland's minister said that he viewed his tour as the first ever visit of any Iris first full minister to Bangladesh with great importance. 

He expressed consensus that more manpower and students from Bangladesh would go to Ireland. 

Later, foreign minister called on visiting UNDP goodwill ambassador and Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria at a city hotel. 

Swedish minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forsell, who is traveling with the Princess, was also present.
