Speaker returns home after attending IPU meet

DHAKA, March 29, 2024 (BSS) - Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today returned home after attending the 148th Assembly of Inter-
Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Geneva of Switzerland from March 23-27.
 
On the first day of the IPU Assembly, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury
presided over a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group at the International
Conference Center in Geneva, according to a parliament secretariat release
here today.

She also participated in a bilateral meeting on the invitation of IPU's
Secretary General Martin Chungong during this time and discussed on various
bilateral issues including IPU conference held in Bangladesh and World
Speakers' Summit.

Dr Shirin Sharmin also participated in 213rd session of the IPU governing
council along with parliamentary representatives group and took part in the
discussion titled "Parliamentary Diplomacy : Building Bridges for Peace and
Understanding".

In addition to this, the Speaker gave address as a panel speaker on the
Protection of Minority Rights event.

She also delivered her address on the concluding session of the governing
council of the 148th IPU Assembly.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has got an opportunity to become a Chairman of
the Asia-Pacific group for next one year.
