Journalist leaders demand withdrawal of entry restriction

DHAKA, May 15, 2024 (BSS) - Journalist leaders today demanded withdrawal of entry restriction for journalists inside the Bangladesh Bank as early as possible.

They said if the journalists are allowed to enter freely inside the central bank like in the past to serve their professional duties, then it would eventually serve the purpose of the government.

The journalist leaders came up with such remarks at a meeting, convened to apprise the leaders about the recent move of the central bank scrapping the free entry of the journalists at the Bangladesh Bank Bhaban, held at the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) Auditorium in the capital.

Presided over by ERF president Refayet Ullah Mirdha, its general secretary Abul Kashem moderated the meeting.

Jatiya Press Club general secretary Shyamol Dutta, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president Sohail Haider Chowdhury, Sajjad Alam Khan Topu, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) president Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, general secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed, ERF former president and The Financial Express Editor Shamsul Haque Zahid, UNB Editor Farid Hossain, former ERF president Monwar Hossain, former ERF general secretaries Ziaur Rahman and SM Rashidul Islam spoke, among others, at the meeting.

It is mentionable that the central bank has imposed bar on the access of journalists into the Bangladesh Bank Bhaban for the last one and a half months.
