RAJSHAHI, June 3, 2024 (BSS)- A daylong workshop titled "Right
to Information (RTI) law and Free Flow of Information Policy of
Rajshahi University (RU)" was held at RU today.
The Intuitional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of RU organized the
workshop at its conference hall at Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji
Academic Building.
Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam and Law Faculty
Dean Prof Abu Nasser Muhammad Wahid addressed the workshop
as the chief and special guests respectively with IQAC Director Prof
Dulal Chandra Roy in the chair.
Registrar Prof Tariqul Hassan and IQAC Additional Directors Prof
Moshihur Rahman and Abdur Rashid Sarker also spoke.
During their keynote presentations, Managing Director of
Management Resource Development Initiative Hasibur Rahman
and RTI Expert Hamidul Islam gave illustrations on 'RTI Law,
2009' and 'Free Flow of Information Policy of RU' respectively as
resource persons.
Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam said successful implementation of RTI law
can be the best way of supplementing the government's efforts of
achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Full-length implementation of the RTI act with an unhindered flow
of information by all the government and non-government
organisations concerned needs to be ensured for expediting
development and ensuring good governance everywhere in society.
Terming the access to information as vital, Prof Islam observed
that the role of RTI act to achieve the SDGs is very much effective
as its basic objective to achieve a better and more sustainable
future for all, adding its key commitment is "no one will be left
behind".
Hasibur Rahman said the present government under the prudent
and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has
adopted diversified steps to attain the goals within the stipulated
time.
"Implementation of RTI act has become crucial for the sake of
establishing good governance in the society and enhancing
transparency and accountability in all tiers of public services," he
added.
