Train operation resumes in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 13, 2024 (BSS)-Train operation resumed here today bringing back relief among the commuters in general as a whole.

Today, 563 up local train left Rajshahi for Rohanpur in Chapainawabganj at 6.10 am for the first time. Afterwards, Mahananda Express mail train left Rajshahi for Khulna at 8.05 am.

Meanwhile, the West Zone (WZ) of Bangladesh Railway has set to operate the intercity trains from August 15. It has already started operation of goods train from Monday last.

Abdul Karim, Railway Station Manager Rajshahi, said services of mail, local and commuter trains are going on and all sorts of necessary measures were taken to ensure security to the passengers in general.

He said the WZ, covering Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions, normally operates 159 trains, including 50 intercity and some inter-country ones, on different routes, including Dhaka.
 
Forty-six local or shuttle and sixty-three commuters or mail trains are also being operated on various routes which are very popular among the passengers, he added.
 
He stated that the number of passengers of intercity trains on various routes has increased significantly in the last couple of years.
 
Considering the benefit of the passengers in general, he said 31 major stations have been brought under the modern computerized seat reservation and ticketing system. Some of those including Rajshahi have launched ticket selling and seat reservation through online systems.
