Rickshaw puller killed in city gunfight

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2024 (BSS) - An auto-rickshaw puller was killed today in a gunfight at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur in the capital city.

Police and family sources said rickshaw puller Sonu Mia, 33, was caught in the middle of a gunfight between two groups over establishing supremacy in illegal drug trading at the Geneva Camp at 8:30 in the morning.

During the shootout, Sonu sustained bullet wounds on both sides of his abdomen and was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead, DMC police camp in-charge Md Faruk Hossain told BSS.

His body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for postmortem.

A case was lodged with Mohammadpur Police Station.
