DHAKA, Oct 23, 2024 (BSS) – Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and Jatiya Nagorik Committee today called for forging ‘national unity’ to resolve the issue of scraping the 1972’s constitution and other political crisis.

“We want unity of all democrat political parties of the country without--Mujibbad and Jatiya Party--to root out fascism and all of its cohorts from the country,” Nagorik Committee Convener Nasir Uddin Patwary told a press conference at National Shaheed Minar this evening.

Nasir said, “We do not want the existence of 72’s spoiled constitution anymore as it has been the driving force behind all the crisis of the country facing for years.”

“Until rooting out fascism from the country, the discussion on conducting a fair election is irrelevant,” he observed.

The people, who expressed solidarity with the July revolution cannot take a stance in favor of 1972’s constitution as Awami fascist structure has been established through the constitution, said Convener of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) Hasnat Abdullah.

Mujibbadi ideology was established in the guise of the Bakshali 1972’s constitution, Hasnat said, adding, “The constitution formulated after the Liberation War is actually Awami constitution.”

Hasnat said the two unresolved issues—scraping of the 1972’s constitution and demand for removal of President —will be solved through discussion.

“Through the national unity, we want a new constitution which will have the reflection of mass people’s aspirations. And it will help end the path of emerging new fascism,” said Abdul Hannan Masud, Chief Organizer of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

July Shaheed Smriti Foundation General Secretary Sarjis Alam, Nagorik Committee spokesperson Samanta Sahrmin, its members--Ariful Islam Adib, Srobona Shafiq Dipti, Tasnim Zara and Manzur-Al-Matin, ADSM spokesperson Umama Fatema, coordinators Abdul Kader and Nusrat Tabassum were also present on the occasion, among others.
