Govt. forms committee to review REB structure

DHAKA, Oct 24, 2024 (BSS)- The government has formed a five-member national committee to review the structure and evaluate role and services of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Palli Biduyt Samity (PBS).

BRAC University Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Farhat Anwar will lead the committee as chairman, while Professor AK Enamul Haque of Asian Center for Development, Professor Md Ziaur Rahman Khan of (EEE Department) of BUET, Professor Mohammad Mahbub Rahman of BRAC University and Professor Khaled Mahmud of IBA of Dhaka University will serve as members.

The committee will review organizational structure as well as all relevant documents and files of BREB and PBS, a power division office order said.

On the basis of the review, the committee will recommend the government for redesigning appropriate framework for REB to make it a competitive, technically efficient and financially viable service provider.

The committee, if it deems required, can co-opt any member into the committee, the office order said.
