DHAKA, Jan 27, 2025 (BSS) - A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC), seeking its direction for live broadcasting of the hearings of the cases of constitutional and public importance at the apex court.

Supreme Court lawyer Saddam Hossain, Abdullah Sadik, Mizanul Haque, judge court lawyer Zayed Bin Amzad, trainee lawyers Mahmudul Hasan, Sabbir Ahmed and four law students filed the writ.

Confirming the matter to BSS, petitioners' lawyer Mohammed Shishir Manir said the right to information is recognized by law, adding, "Right to fair justice is recognized by the constitution."

"Hearings of important cases in different countries around the world are streamed live. As per Article 35 of the constitution, transparent and accountable justice is basic rights. That is why the writ petition was filed," he said.

Supreme Court registrar general, secretaries of the Information and Communication Technology Division and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry were made respondents in the petition.
