DHAKA, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the rise to power of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman through the Sepoy-People's Revolution was a turning point for the country.

“On the historic November 7, 1975, the people thwarted the conspiracy of hegemonism. The rise of the statesman, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, to power through the Sepoy-People's Revolution was a turning point for the country,” he said.

Fakhrul made the remarks after paying tribute at the tomb of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, marking the Revolution and Solidarity Day.

BNP leaders and activists from different units and affiliated organisations paid their tributes by placing wreaths.

Senior BNP leaders, including Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, among others, were present.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party democracy. He worked to ensure the rights of the media and the people. In just four years, Ziaur Rahman brought about radical political, social, and economic changes in the country.”

“Ziaur Rahman introduced the independence of the judiciary and the free-market economy. Thus began Bangladesh's forward journey. The foundation he laid is what enables the country to progress today. This man of destiny established the basis for the nation's advancement,” he added.

The BNP secretary general also said that various malicious attempts and conspiracies are now underway to destroy democracy after the July Uprising. He called upon everyone to unite and thwart these conspiracies in the spirit of the historic November 7.
