Funeral of KU student killed in road accident held in Khulna

KHULNA, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - The funeral rites of Khulna University (KU) student Moumita Halder, 26, were held this morning in her ancestral village Chuknagar, Dumuria Upazila.

Moumita, a 21st batch master's student of the KU Law Discipline, was killed in a road accident in Khulna city on Monday evening while returning home with her father.

Police and local people said the accident took place around 7:20pm on K D Ghosh Road in front of Zila Parishad when a speedy private car knocked their rickshaw from behind, throwing Moumita onto the road. She sustained severe injuries to her head and neck.

Locals rescued her and took her to Khulna Sadar Hospital. She was later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared her dead. 

Her father, Tarun Halder, also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim expressed condolence and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Moumita Halder, and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
