Mobile court fines man for cutting topsoil from agricultural land

CHATTOGRAM, March 31, 2026 (BSS)- A person was arrested and fined Taka 5 lakh for illegally cutting topsoil from agricultural land and supplying it to a 
brick kiln in Satkania upazila. 

The operation was led by Satkania Circle Additional Superintendent of Police 
Ariful Islam Siddiqui in the Temuhani Beriband area of Keochia Union around 2 
am on Monday. 

Abdul Momen, 37, was arrested during the operation. Upazila Assistant 
Commissioner (Land) Shamsuzzaman fined him Taka five lakh under Section 15(1) 
of the Sand and Soil Management Act-2010 through a mobile court. 

Two drivers managed to escape when they sensed the police presence, and their 
machines were damaged.

 Additional Superintendent of Police Ariful Islam Siddiqui stated that Momen 
confessed to the crime during interrogation and implicated another local 
named Babar Ahmed, who is currently at large. The crackdown on soil 
excavation from agricultural land will continue, he added.
