JOS, Nigeria, March 30, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Gunmen killed at least a dozen people at a bar in Jos, the capital of Nigeria's restive Plateau state, sparking mob violence that killed 10 more people, local sources told AFP on Monday.

"Some gunmen on motor bikes opened fire" on a bar Sunday evening in the Jos North district, local government council deputy chairman Kabiru Sani told AFP.

Plateau state Red Cross secretary Nurudeen Hussaini Magaji confirmed the attack, putting the toll at 12, and said a retaliatory mob formed.

A local youth leader put the toll from the mob violence at "about 10", while Sani said 27 people in total were killed.
