DHAKA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) – The foreign ministry today dismissed as “false and malicious” a fabricated statement attributed to State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam that has been circulating on social media.

In a statement, the ministry said several fake photo cards have recently been spread online falsely quoting the state minister with remarks regarding Bangladesh’s relations with India.

“The statement attributed to the state minister is entirely baseless and has been fabricated with malicious intent. 
She has never made such comments at any time or in any forum,” the ministry said.

The ministry urged the public not to be misled by misinformation and rumours circulated through unverified sources.

Clarifying the government’s position, the ministry said the state minister has consistently emphasised that Bangladesh’s foreign policy is guided by the principle of “Bangladesh first”.

“While safeguarding the interests of the people of Bangladesh, we will maintain relations with all countries and governments. Bangladesh will engage with all nations with dignity, confidence and friendship,” she said.

The ministry reiterated its call for responsible use of social media and urged all to refrain from sharing unverified content that may create confusion or misperception.
