
DHAKA, Mar 30, 2026 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said exploring talents from grassroots level is the actual way to enrich the country's sports arena.
He said Bangladesh has a huge potential in sports and if talent can be developed among players through proper care, they would be able to bring more honours for the country in the world arena.
Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking as a special guest at the inaugural session of the 'sports card and allowance distribution' programme at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in city’s Tejgaon area this morning.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the sports card and allowance programme as the chief guest at the event with the theme of 'if sports becomes a profession, family gets confidence’.
In his speech, the BNP secretary general said the entire plan of this programme is very excellent and the Prime Minister has given the responsibility of the sports ministry to a person, who had reputation at the national level.
Fakhrul said there is a huge potential among the players of Bangladesh and if they can be nurtured properly, it is possible to achieve more success.
He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told him that a plan has been taken to bring up players by hunting talent right from the school level. “His initiative is the only real way to advance the country's sports sector,” he added.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for honouring the athletes who achieved success at the international level, the BNP secretary general said if this trend continues, one success after another will be achieved in sports in the coming days.
