DHAKA, Mar 30, 2026 (BSS) - The government has declared a reward of up to Taka 1 lakh for individuals who would provide accurate information regarding illegal storage and smuggling of fuel oil, aiming to strengthen oversight and discipline in the energy sector.
“The government to provide maximum one lakh Taka reward to informers for giving true information to the local administration about illegal fuel stockpiling and smuggling,” an official release quoted the Energy and Mineral Resources Division announcement as saying.
According to the statement issued today, the initiative is a part of ongoing efforts to curb irregularities and prevent unlawful activities related to fuel distribution.
Authorities said the reward system is a continuation of earlier plans designed to encourage public participation in identifying illegal practices in the fuel sector.
To further ensure stability in fuel supply and prevent hoarding, several measures have been implemented. These include the operation of regular mobile courts, appointment of tag officers at petrol pumps, and enhanced monitoring across distribution points.
Vigilance teams have been established in every district to strengthen supervision, while dedicated mobile numbers have been introduced to facilitate communication between the public and enforcement teams.
Additionally, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at oil depots to bolster security and prevent smuggling activities.
Officials hoped that these combined efforts would help maintain discipline in the fuel market and ensure uninterrupted supply across the country.
