RANGPUR, March 30, 2026 (BSS) - A memorial and discussion meeting on the
March 25 genocide and the historical great War of Liberation was organised at
the initiative of the Rangpur Regional Information Office on Monday
afternoon.

Rangpur Metropolitan Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Unit Member-Secretary heroic
Muktijoddha Md Abdus Sattar was present as the chief guest at the programme
held at the Rangpur Adarsh High School hallroom in the city.

Rangpur Regional Information Office Senior Information Officer Md Shahjahan
Ali presided over the event participated by government officials, teachers
and more than a hundred students of the educational institution.

Bir Muktijoddha Abdus Sattar, in his speech, said the history of the
Liberation War is a glorious event for the Bengali nation.

"Our address and identity lie in the Liberation War. If there had been no
liberation war, Bangladesh would not have found its place on the world map as
an independent and sovereign state," he said.

He also said that even after winning an absolute victory in the 1970 general
elections, the Pakistani ruling class did not hand over power to the
Bengalis. Rather, it tried to suppress the Bengali nation through
conspiracies.

In continuation of this, on the midnight of March 25, the Pakistani invading
forces carried out a barbaric massacre of unarmed Bengalis in different parts
of the country. More than a million people were martyred in this massacre.

"After that, our great independence was achieved through a long nine-month
bloody war in exchange for the sacrifice of three million martyrs," he said.

Addressing the students, Md Abdus Sattar said that the new generation should
know the correct history of the Liberation War so that the spirit of
independence is not undermined.

He called upon the students of the present days to build a prosperous country
by embracing the spirit of the Liberation War, developing patriotism and a
sense of responsibility.

In his speech as a special guest, District Education Officer Md Enayet
Hossain said that the Bengali nation continued to struggle for the
establishment of democratic rights against the injustice of the then
Pakistani rulers.

"One of the goals of the Liberation War was to form a happy, prosperous and
discrimination-free Bangladesh," he said.

Senior Information Officer Md Shahjahan Ali said that after the partition of
the country in 1947, the people of the then East Pakistan were subjected to
discrimination in the social, political, economic, cultural and educational
fields for 23 long years.

"Against this injustice and deprivation, the Bengali nation gradually united
and got involved in the freedom movement and the spirit of Bengali
nationalism was firmly established," he said.

He said about the barbaric massacre of unarmed Bengalis on the midnight of
March 25, 1971, that the main purpose of this genocide was to suppress the
movement for the just rights of the Bengali nation.

"But this brutal massacre strengthened the demand for independence and the
great Liberation War began," he said.

Rangpur Adarsh High School Headmaster Mohammad Rahmat Alam, agriculturist Md
Azhar Ali Mandal spoke as special guests on the occasion.
