PM joins namaz-e-janaza of Dilara Hafiz

DHAKA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today joined the namaz-e-janaza of noted educationist Professor Dilara Hafiz at the south plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban here.

“Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined the Namaz-e-Janaza of Dilara Hafiz, wife of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, at 12 noon today,” said a PMO press release.

Hafez Qaari Mufti Md Abu Raihan, Pesh Imam of the Parliament Secretariat Mosque, conducted the prayers.

Before the janaza, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal presented a brief biography of the late Dilara Hafiz.

Speaking on the occasion Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in an emotional choked voice recalled his 56-year conjugal life with Dilara, highlighting her contributions as a teacher and administrator.

He underlined the affection shown to both of them by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman, LGRD minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also spoke on the occasion.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, representatives on behalf of the President, BNP leaders and government officials paid their last homage to Dilara Hafiz after the janaza.  

Special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.
Later, Dilara Hafiz was laid to eternal rest at the Banani Military Cemetery after the second janaza.

Cabinet members, senior BNP leaders, opposition leaders, senior officials of the JS Secretariat, a cross section of people and a large number of people from Bhola-3 constituency attended the janaza.

Former Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and Principal of Eden Mohila College died in Singapore on March 28 while undergoing treatment there.
