84 new books hit Amar Ekushey Book Fair today

DHAKA, Feb 10, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 84 new books hit the stalls of Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 today, the tenth day of the fair.

Of the newly published books, six are stories, while 18 are novels, two are essays, 21 are poems, one is research works, one is rhyme, two are biographies, one is on Liberation War, one is drama, two are science books, one is a travel book, two are history books, one is on politics, one is on language, two are on mass uprising, one book on religious, one is based on translation, one is on science fiction and other 16. These books were on display in the stalls, a press release said.

A discussion titled ‘Dr Maniruzzamaner Somoyrekha: Bhasha Bigganer Threekaldarshi Paribrajak’ was held today at the main stage of the book fair. 

Mashrur Imtiaz presented an article with Professor Mansur Musa in the chair. Litterateur Salma Nasrin and Mamun-or-Rashid took part in the discussion.

The fair will open at 3pm tomorrow and will continue till 9pm.

A discussion titled 'Jibon o Sahithya: Shahed Ali’ will be held at the main stage of the book fair tomorrow at 4pm. 

Litterateur Chanchal Kumar Bose will preside over the discussion, while litterateur Nazib Wadud and Mostaq Ahmed Din will take part in the discussion while Shibli Azad will present an article at the event.

This year, the fair hosts 99 stalls on the premises of Bangla Academy and 609 stalls at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.

A total of 708 publishers are participating in the fair, compared to 642 last year.

Visitors can visit the fair from 3pm to 9pm every day. On holidays, it will remain open from 11:00am.

The fair also features 37 pavilions—one at Bangla Academy and 36 at Suhrawardy Udyan. A space designated for little magazines has been set up near the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan.

The theme for this year's book fair is "July Gono Obbhuthyan: Notun Bangladesh Binirman" (The July Uprising: Rebuilding a New Bangladesh).
