CHT adviser urges hill council members to work for development

KHAGRACHHARI, Feb 11, 2025(BSS) - Adviser to the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Supradip Chakma today urged the chairman and members of the local hill district council to work with the mentality of rendering services for the development of the area.

"You have to work with better understanding among the members of the council for the development of the hill areas," he said while exchanging views with the local hill council members and addressing a reception to the Khagrachhari football team which recently became divisional champion in the National Gold Cup Football Tournament Boys and Girls (under-17)-2025 at Khagrachhari hill district council conference room here as chief guest.

Among others, Chairman of Khagrachhari district council Jiruna Tripura, Joint Secretary to the CHT Affairs ministry Kongkon Chakma, Chief Executive Officer of the district council Sumon Chowdhury and members of the hill council were present at that time.

The adviser, also a former ambassador, urged the council members to be united and understand the rules and regulations of the hill council to expedite the development activities in the hill areas.

He also urged all to cultivate the agricultural and cash crops for the financial prosperity of the area.

The CHT affairs adviser emphasized on taking a three-year-long bamboo cultivation plan and more veterinary and fisheries projects to make the people of the area self-reliant.

"We want to set up engineering college, nursing college and hostels, orphanages and students' dormitories in the area," he said, adding that the government has been relentlessly trying to create a better and congenial sports atmosphere for the students of the hill area.

The adviser also urged the hill and Bengali people to try to become top of the toppers in sports, especially in the football and cricket.

"You have to win at the national and international level competitions," he said, adding any type of untoward incidents or mismanagement in the area would not be tolerated.
