Research, innovation crucial for environmental development: Rizwana

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today stressed the need for promoting research in tackling climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability. 

"Research must extend beyond academic exercises to become practical and people-centric. Only through research-driven innovations, environmentally responsible policies can be formulated, ultimately ensuring a habitable planet for future generations," she said.

The environmental adviser made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural season of the "Research, Innovation, and Publication Fair 2025" held at the Intellectuals' Square of the Chattogram University (CU) here.

In her address, she focused on conducting extensive research on critical issues such as climate change, environmental conservation, and the sustainable utilisation of natural resources. 

Calling for research that is scientific, objective, and dedicated to human welfare, she underscored the necessity of environmentally sustainable technology and innovation to secure a better future.

Rizwana urged the CU authorities to declare its campus free from single-use plastics and noise pollution, reinforcing the institution's commitment to sustainability.

Paying honour to distinguished scientist and researcher Jamal Nazrul Islam, she formally inaugurated the "Research, Innovation, and Publication Fair 2025." 

After the inauguration, she visited the exhibition stalls.

The event was attended by CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar, its Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin, Trustee of the A.F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation M Nurul Alam and Member of the Jamal Nazrul Research Center's Governing Board Ms. Sadaf Saz Siddiqui.

The research fair featured over a hundred stalls representing schools, colleges, university departments, research laboratories, and institutes from within and beyond the Chattogram Division.
