DHAKA, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon all to remain vigilant so that no division should be created over elections.

The BNP Secretary General said these at the unveiling ceremony of three books, written by Shama Obaid about BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair this evening.

"Now we have to be more careful. Everyone has to go towards the elections with responsible behaviour," Mirza Fakhrul.

"Through an election acceptable to all, we will build a democratic state, build a system, and build a society. We should move forward in united way for this goal. If any division is created on this issue, it will harm the country and the people," he said.

Mentioning the need for thinking freely, the BNP Secretary General said, every person and every party should be able to think freely.

"They may not agree with anyone. But they should have the mentality of sacrificing their lives to express their opinions. However, now we see attacks on freedom of expression through social media. It is sad. The new generation should think positively," he said.

The BNP Secretary General said for the past one and a half decades, people have not been able to express their thoughts under Awami League rule.

"We have been freed from that through the mass uprising of students and the people," he said.

Attributing importance to state reforms, the BNP Secretary General said, "We think that the reforms that are being talked about today definitely need to be made in the state. Realizing this, our leader Begum Khaleda Zia gave 'Vision 2030' in 2016. In which state reforms were talked about. In continuation of this, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman gave 31 points in 2022 to transform the state structure. The main issues of the reforms that are coming today are all among those 31 points."

Stating that the correct history cannot be erased even if one wishes, he said, there is no end to researching Ziaur Rahman's speeches and extraordinary wisdom in running the country.

"Khaleda Zia also led the movement against the autocratic Hasina. Tarique Rahman led the people without making any compromise," he said.

BNP Chairperson's Advisor Abdus Salam and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid were present.
