River Police nabs 348 crime suspects in last 7 days

DHAKA, March 20, 2025 (BSS) - The River Police arrested 348 
individuals from across the country for being allegedly involved in 
various crimes that include murder, robbery and theft in the last seven 
days.    

“Some 348 individuals in 42 cases were apprehended in a week,” said a 
press release of the River Police. 

Of the cases, 24 cases are of illegal fishing, eight of recklessness, one 
of  murder, one of theft, five cases of unnatural death, one of extortion 
and two of sand extraction, it said.  

The River Police in various operations across the country seized  
2,49,77,926 meters of illegal nets, 9,369kg of fish, 2,52,000 pieces of 
Bagda Renu fry, 5,95,925 pieces of different types of fish fry, 100 kg of 
Pangas fry and 140 kg of crabs.

A total of 126 cases against bulkheads and six cases against dredgers 
were registered for having no legal documents in separate raids of the 
River Police Prosecution. 

The seized illegal fishing nets have already been destroyed and the 
seized fishes were distributed to the orphanage and the fish fry have 
been released into the water.
