20 Bangladeshi youths repatriated from Myanmar

DHAKA, April 13, 2025 (BSS) - Twenty Bangladeshi nationals, those were incarcerated in
Myanmar for the past few months, left MITT Port in Yangon today for Chattogram by Bangladeshi naval ship. 

Myanmar law enforcing agencies captured the youths for illegal trespassing while they were being trafficked by unscrupulous agents to Malaysia said a foreign ministry’s press release here. 
 
“Following negotiations with relevant Myanmar authorities and verification of their Bangladeshi nationality, the Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar has arranged today’s repatriation,” said the press release.
    
In the same ship, the 55 member Bangladesh’s Search and Rescue (SAR) and Medical team, who provided humanitarian assistance to the earthquake affected people of Myanmar for 10 days, also left Yangon.
 
Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Dr. M Monwar Hossain was present at the port during the handing over process of 20 Bangladeshi youths. 

Hossain appreciated the members of the SAR team for raising  the image of Bangladesh in Myanmar through their activities.

The Bangladesh ambassador urged everyone to exercise caution when travelling abroad for employment opportunities and advised against falling prey to suspicious or deceptive job offers.

Over the past two years, Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar has successfully facilitated repatriation of 352 Bangladeshi nationals.

The last repatriation took place on September 28 last year when 85 Bangladeshis returned home. 

Officers of the Bangladesh Embassy were also present at the port to coordinate with the Myanmar authorities, conduct verification and issue travel permits in favour of the returnees.

Bangladesh Navy Ship BNS Somudra Avijan, had arrived in Yangon on Friday carrying 120 metric tons of humanitarian assistance for the earthquake affected people of Myanmar.  

The ship is expected to reach Chattogram in Tuesday afternoon.
