Dhaka-North Bengal rail link suspended due to train derailment in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, April 13, 2025 (BSS) - Rail communication between Dhaka and North Bengal has been suspended as a bogie of the Dhaka-bound Chilahati Express train derailed on the Dhaka-Tangail rail line in the district today.

The incident occurred in Salna of the district around 2:30 pm today, in-charge of the Joydebpur Railway Outpost Md Nadiruzzaman told BSS.

He said four wheels of a bogie of the Dhaka-bound Chilahati Express train derailed in the Salna area of the Dhaka-Tangail railway track around 2:30 pm today. This stopped train traffic between North Bengal and Dhaka.

On receiving the information, the concerned railway officials inspected the spot.
Joydebpur Railway Junction Station Master Abul Khair Chowdhury said the derailment of the bogie has stopped the movement of trains to North Bengal via Jamuna Bridge.

Higher authorities have already been informed to rescue the train. Train services with North Bengal will resumed after recovery of the derailed coach by a relief train to be arrived from Dhaka.
