DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) - Special Assistant to Chief Adviser on Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury today said action was taken against model and Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 winner Meghna Alam in accordance with the existing laws, and nothing illegal was done there.

He made this remark while briefing journalists after a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Home Ministry's conference room in the city.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present on the occasion.

"This (Special Powers Act) law is being used. It is not that this law is not being applied, and it is not that this law has been used in this particular case. The use of this law is not illegal," said the special assistance, replying to a query of the journalists.

He added, "Now, if you're asking about this specific case - an incident has been taken place, a complaint has been filed, and the matter is under the High Court, and once a case is with the High Court, it becomes sub judice. So, further discussions on it wouldn't be appropriate. Let's wait to see what the outcome is."

Khuda Baksh Chowdhury said, "But, one thing is certain that action has been taken under the existing law."

Model Meghna Alam was sent to jail by the court two days after the police arrested her from her house in Dhaka. The court issued a 30-day detention order under the Special Powers Act.
