Court confiscates assets of ex-minister Tajul's wife

DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to confiscate properties, freeze bank accounts, and seize shares belonging to Fouzia Islam, the wife of former Awami League minister Tajul Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order today in response to a petition filed by the ACC. 

ACC deputy director Aktarul Islam confirmed the development.

As per the court's directive, the ACC will freeze 12 bank accounts in Fouzia Islam's name, which hold a total of Tk 1,42,64,135. In addition, shares in 14 companies, valued at Tk 3,19,12,480, will be seized.

According to the case documents, Fouzia Islam owns a flat and land, one-third ownership of a four-story building in Halishahar, Chattogram, and 304.59 acres of land in Lama, Bandarban.

The ACC alleges that she illegally acquired movable and immovable assets worth Tk. 6.90 crore, with assistance from her husband.
