DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said a comprehensive master plan for modern waste management will be developed under Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) for all divisional cities and municipal areas of the country.

She said special initiatives will be taken to make urban areas, particularly capital Dhaka, greenery to check the increase in temperature.

“Necessary steps will also be taken to rehabilitate vulnerable embankments in the coastal regions,” the environment adviser said while speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The meeting was held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, which focused on the progress of BCDP, a ministry press release said.

Rizwana said with the support of development partners, safe and potable drinking water will be ensured for coastal communities under the BCDP framework.

Conservation of biodiversity will also be given priority, she said.

“To build institutional resilience, initiatives will be taken to enhance the professional knowledge and capacity of ministry officials to tackle climate risks,” the environment adviser said.

She said a dedicated working group will be formed to outline the roadmap and formulate the action plan for BCDP.

The adviser instructed the authorities concerned to launch the official website and other operational components of BCDP by July this year.

Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) of the ministry Dr Fahmida Khanom and Senior Climate Change Officer of ADB Mousumi Parvin were, among others, present at the meeting.
