ACC sues Matarbari director Jahangir Alam

DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against a director of Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-fired Power Project M Jahangir Alam on charges of acquiring illegal assets.

ACC Director General (Prevention) M Akhter Hossain said Alam was accused of money laundering as the graft body found him to have amassed over Tk. 29 crore beyond his known source of income.

The ACC official said Alam was also found to be engaged suspicious transaction of over Tk 127 crore through 94 different accounts of various banks and financial institutions.

He said the power project director was believed to be converting and transferring the money or property to conceal the illegal sources of the sum.

The ACC case was filed under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 and sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.
