DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today said police can’t be a killer force and they can only have shotguns to maintain law and order.

“Police can’t be a killer force. We can at best have the shotgun. This is the natural expectation,” he said while distributing prizes among the winners of the IGP Cup Cricket Championship 2024-25 at the Police Cricket Club ground at the Police Staff College in Mirpur here.

The police chief said the police should not use the firearms as bullet can kill people for sure like rifles.

“Police can use non-lethal weapons in maintaining the law and order. Using non-lethal weapon is the practice all over the world,” he said.

He added that the decision in this connection will be taken after holding meeting with all the stakeholders.

The Industrial Police cricket team has become champions after defeating the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) by two wickets in the final of the IGP Cup Cricket Championship 2024-25. The final match was held in the T20 format.
