DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) – The Carter Center’s Senior Associate Director Jonathan Stonestreet today met National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz at the Commission’s office in the capital’s Parliament building.

During the meeting, Professor Riaz outlined the Commission's progress and objectives.

He said, on behalf of the commission, that a spreadsheet containing the five Commission’s key reform recommendations has already been shared with political parties to gather their specific feedback.

Based on the responses received, the Commission has conducted initial discussions with 32 parties, he said, adding that the first phase of discussions is nearing completion, after which the second phase will commence.

He emphasized the Commission’s goal of creating a national charter through broad consensus, outlining the future direction of Bangladesh.

This charter aims to contribute to the establishment of a democratic and accountable state, ensuring citizen rights through a robust Anti-Corruption Commission and an independent judiciary.

Also present were The Carter Center's Associate Director, Sairah Zaidi, and Local Assistant Specialist Kazi Shahidul Islam.
