2-day int'l conf on social sciences begins at BRUR

RANGPUR, May 14, 2025 (BSS) - For the first time a two-day long 'International Conference on Social Sciences' organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences began at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) today.
 
Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali inaugurated and chaired the event at the BRAC Learning Center in the city.
 
Researchers, teachers and students from various universities in the USA, Nepal and Bangladesh are participating in the event arranged with the theme 'Social science today and sustainable development: trends, dilemmas and opportunities'.
 
Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, member of the University Grants Commission participated it as the chief guest.
 
Professor Lisle Ritchie, Department of Sociology, University of Virginia, USA, presented a keynote paper on Social Sustainability and Social Resilience at the conference.
 
Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. M. Enamulya, Rajshahi University Pro Vice -chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Farid Uddin Khan, Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development Executive Director Dr. Mustafa K. Mujeri and Nepal's South Asia Watch on Trade Economics and Environment Executive Director Dr. Parash Kharel and convener of the conference Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam also poke.
 
Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain highlighted the phased analysis and history of sustainable development. He presented a comparative analysis of statistics on various steps taken to alleviate poverty in Bangladesh.
 
He called upon researchers to conduct various research activities on water problems, drying up of rivers, Teesta River in the northern region, modern slavery, political economy, etc.
 
The BRUR Vice-chancellor said that the conference will pave the way for new innovations and knowledge creation through discussions between national and international researchers and participants.
 
Researchers, teachers and students will benefit greatly from such conferences in the field of research and education.
 
"In addition, through such an international conference, the university's reputation will spread beyond the borders of the country and the globe as well," he said.
