Electric bus to ply city streets: Asif Mahmud

DHAKA, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain today said electric bus will ply on the roads of the capital.

“The project will begin from 1st July. The government has taken the initiative to reduce the problem of public transport in the city,” he said in a post at his verified facebook page.

A total 400 buses will be bought under the project while there will be three charging depots. The project will be completed within 2030. The World Bank will provide Taka 2,135 crore while the government will provide Taka 375 crore.

In another post, Asif, also youth and sports adviser said, 'The Farakka Long March called by Maulana Bhashani is the inspiration for the people of this region to fight for a fair share of water.' 

He said this march marks the historic Farakka Day on May 16. 

At the call of Maulana Bhashani, millions of people participated in the historic long march towards Farakka in the struggle for a fair share of water, he added.
